Tell mama is a blues where I´ll show chord tones to built the soloing with.

Tell Mama consist of three chords.

The chords and 7th chord tones are:

These three 7th chords are built upon the 7th chord tones I´ll show. When improvising it´s good to know the 7th chord tones so you know the important tones in each scale. You can see the chord tones as the skeleton to the scales. I´ll recommend to learn the 7th chord tones in the same way you learn the scales. Practice them in all positions and learn where the root, third, fifth and the seventh tones are.

Soloing scales:

The scales to improvise in the tune Tell Mama looks like this in the 3rd position and there are the G minor scale (aeolian) and the G harmonic minor.

G minor aeolian

G harmonic minor

G minor aeolian works good to the Gm and Cm chord and G harmonic minor to the D7 chord.

When playing G harmonic minor to the D7 chord you can see it as an altered D7 scale as well, since there are several altered tones in the scale.

Backing track to tune here!

Good luck!
